If you had $150 what would your next purchase be?
I've got $150 to blow on a piece of gear and can't seem to make up my mind about what to get? Just wondering if any of you have any suggestions. Mics, preamps, cables, pc parts, whatever? thanks guys

Re: If you had $150 what would your next purchase be?
Hi,
That's a tough price point for me. Possibly a good mp3 encoder or piece of software for compiling songs into a CD, if I was required to stay below $150. I just got a good set of Sony headphones for $99. I'm happy with that purchase. For $250 I think I'd get Sound Forge. The low end version that came with Acid is really helping me alot, but it only supports 16-bit. I'd like 24-bit. Above $250 I think I'd look at an external mic pre, maybe, don't know. For $445, I just spent my money on eBay and got a Pod Pro. Higher than $500 isn't worth discussing as I have to buy Christmas presents soon! ;-) Cheers, Mark <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:<HR>Originally posted by H-man: I've got $150 to blow on a piece of gear and can't seem to make up my mind about what to get? Re: If you had $150 what would your next purchase be?
yea, I'm w/ Mark.. $150 bucks is kinda tough. You could always buy a couple of SM57's... I've got a DBX 266XL compressor/gate that really is a great piece of equipment... paid $160 for it I believe... that was a while back. If it were me I'd save that cash a little longer, nurture it, make sure it gets plenty of sunlight and water it everyday... pretty soon I'd have enough for the Roland JV-1010 I've been wanting. I need a synth w/ good natural pianos, organs, strings etc. Hey! But that's just me...
chris heading off to post my Davec test, good luck. |

Re: If you had $150 what would your next purchase be?
Maybe a touch more than $150, but right now I heed a 40-gig, 7200 rpm drive for audio, and I'd bump my memory up to 512 Mb...

If you don't have a tube pre...
Get the mp studio $99 (ART) and take the girlfriend out to dinner. Both will warm up your night. |

Re: If you had $150 what would your next purchase be?
I'd check out that ART TubeMP before you buy it. No offence to Mr. Seven I've seen some good advice from him on these boards but I didn't like the TubeMP at all. Wait I take some of that back... it sounded great on bass guitar... made my crappy Ibanez Gio sound like a Fender P-bass (big and thick). But I hated it on vocals/guitars/keys/everything else.. it's really warm sounding but a little too bassy, almost muddy. Check it out, you might like it but I sold mine a couple of months later.

I'd take the girl freind/wife out for a night....you could convince her that you don't spend all your money on equipment and open the way for bigger buck purchases in the future!

Now there's a man who understands investing.
I agree with O about the tube MP...I hated the sound of it. $150? I dunno, but I'm about to drop $250 on reason. |

You can buy yourself a nice office chair with that $150 for comfortable recording sessions. Or get another hard drive for audio. they have adapters to make a standard h/d "removeable". That and a 40 gig h/d would be around $150. The athlon xp1700 is $143 at pricewatch.com. You can get a few sets of AKG k66 headphones if you need them, or a headphone amp. I have 2 alesis 3630 compressors i'll sell you- $150 for both. A lot 17" monitors are around $150 these days. Or you could stop by Mike's hood. . .
