Thanks, I'll definitely try out what you are advising.

On a separate topic, I just got a CPU overload error in a new session, one track, just sitting idle, and no plugins. I've jumped it up to 256. For voice track recording (on one track, mono), 24 bit, 48k, do you have a recommended starting number?CPU_overload.jpg

1024 or 2048 - If you're monitoring through the interface you won't hear any added latency.

By all means try increasing it, or max it out if you do use hardware monitoring, but this is also the time to make sure your plugins are up to date/compatible with your OS and Pro Tools versions (yes even if you are not instantiating any plugins they can still cause problems), that the system is fully optimized, that you are recording to a fast audio drive (dedicated drive unless you are using a fast SSD), etc. They are things to look at especially if you increase the buffer size to say 1024 and still have problems with fairly simple sessions. If you need more help we need a lot more detail about your computer specs/setup.

What does "instantiating" plugins mean? How can it be avoided? A separate dedicated fast audio drive isn't really required if a fast SSD is used?

I am going to keep this thread focused on the OP and what he was after help on, if you have other questions you can search for answers on DUC or create a new thread and ask them there. Disk requirements for Pro Tools including with modern SSDs have been flogged to death on DUC.
