Hi All,

I removed it easily but I’m just wondering if anyone remembers whether I have to solder a jumper between where the two fan wires connected to the board? I’m thinking I can probably just leave it without anything there but I’m not 100% sure.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Ryan

On my system, I simply removed the fan and made no other changes.

It's been running for years that way, in a 2012 mac pro 5,1.

Thanks Jeremiah. I just confirmed this with a tech friend of mine as well.

Removing the fan was really easy. The glue on mine wasn't even holding so it was essentially just using a pair of pliers to remove the standoffs from the PCB and the fan wires weren't even soldered so they just pull out. It took about 5 minutes to do.

Thanks again.

Ryan

I replaced the fan with something like this :

https://allegro.pl/oferta/wentylator...5mm-8393615513

I think it's a Raspberry PI fan. Started really quiet, but after a couple of days has this "starting up noise" where it is easing in for a couple of minutes, then gets quiet again. All is good. temps around 75 deg C.

Thanks Bartosz. I ended up just pulling the fan off and leaving it as is. It seems to be running fine. The reality is that these cards are relatively inexpensive on the used market now, so even if it does get damaged, it's not the end of the world. Living without fans altogether is appreciated.
