No CoreAudio installed- Should Itunes still play?

I am confused about the CoreAudio application.
I have been having some trouble with regular CPU spikes. I’ve even reinstalled OS 10.4 – no luck.

To eliminate as many possible conflicts as possible, I decided to reinstall Pro tools 7.1 without CoreAudio.
However, all my other music programs eg Itunes and Garageband still work through my Mbox2.

I thought CoreAudio had to be installed for these to work.
The Digidesign Mbox2 preference pane is still in the System preference window.

Should other programs play through the Mbox2 if CoreAudio is not installed?

My System:
Imac 1.8 G5
2Gb memory
Mac OS 10.4.6
All the latest Mac updates.
Pro Tools LE 7.0 (and 7.1 and cs7) with Mbox2

I am a newbi in this digi 002 system, and I want to known, how you can connected i-tunes,to play on my monitor.
System
powerbook-G-4
1,5 Gb memory
OSX 10.4.6
PT 7.0

I look in the preferences system of i-tunes and PT 7.0, and I see nothing to configure.
So thank tou if you can help me.

You need to take the output of your computers sound card into the Alt(ternative) INput of the 002 and then press the Alt In Src to monitor whatever is coming into that input on the back of the 002. Now your Monitor Volume knob adjust the gain of that input. You could also record iTunes or whatever is playing into that alternative source if you read up on the ALT 7-8 button of your unit. ENJOY!

There is only an "Mbox 2" preference pane, it gets installed with ProTools 7. Since it seems like the Mbox 2 is an actual CoreAudio device, it has this preference pane to adjust it's audio settings (like what you'd set using the CoreAudio Driver with the 002, if you were to use it for that).
