Default Application Manager 17.2 stuck on "Initializing"

Today I accepted an update to the "Application Manager."

It gets stuck on "Initializing."

It will not Quit.

On force quit, it does NOT EVEN SHOW UP.

My solution was to throw the application manager into the trash. From the Finder.

Then I went and ran the uninstaller.

Am I ok. Any thoughts? What's the deal?

Oh. And There is No Support on the Avid support site for "Application Manager." It's like the program doesn't exist.

Thank you.

How long is 'stuck'? The application manager can take a while to connect and get your info sometimes.

If you do want to try it again, you can find the latest version HERE

It gets stuck indefinitely.

This is the update that went out TODAY, which is why I think it is worthy of a new "thread."

So, to be clear, I threw it in the trash while it was "initializing" and refusing to Quit.

Then I did a full shutdown and startup.

Then I ran the uninstaller.

I am beginning to think there is absolutely no need for this program.

I have the Application Manager folder still sitting in my trash.

When you say "a while."

It was stuck for a few minutes.

Does "a while" mean more than a few minutes?

I should be waiting 10 minutes or an hour for it to stop initializing?

I've never really "used" the application manager for anything that I can think of.

Yes, currently. About 5 minutes is not uncommon, and it is totally not acceptable.

I agree it is not acceptable.

I did not accept it, so I trashed the program using the above methods.

I don't think that should affect my ProTools program.

I should also mention... it was about 5 minutes doing the spinning wheel as well after I tried to Quit the program.

So, not only does it fail to initialize, it fails to Quit.

Thank you for your response.

I've had similar issues in regards to closing the application while it's in 'initialising' mode. It hangs, the only way to solve the hang is by logging out and in again. I've had the manager take up to 10/15 minutes to 'initialise' at times.

Usually after an update i'll stop it from logging in at launch so I don't get any spinning wheel hangs, then just check it when I feel necessary. Since adopting this workflow, i've had no issues with it.

Removing it from your system will not affect the way Pro Tools works.
The Application Manager is a tool that is supposed to make it easier for you to track your subscriptions and plug-ins as well as make it easier to keep up to date with the latest versions.

There are people that don't care for it and choose not to run it, so it really is your choice. The downside is that when you upgrade PT, it will install it again, and you will either have to disable it, or remove it once again.

Sorry that you're having trouble. Just did a sync here and it took 1min48sec (Mac Mini w/Sierra).

In Application Manager, click on Preferences then click Clear Cache Files. Please reply back if that doesn't help.

Our KB has some troubleshooting info for Application Manager.
