Newbie Needs Help With Midi Setup

I'm a total virgin at Pro Tools and I'm setting up a home studio. I have a prehistoric Roland U-20 Sampler and the interface is one of those small, blue, M-Audio mouse-type thingies. The USB end of the interface is plugged into the computer but I get no signal and I'm not sure how to set things up. I'm not really even sure how to get the Roland into Midi-mode so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
