Computer Noise Reduction
Does anyone have any experience/opinions on the following isolation boxes for computers:
ISO Box and ISO Post from Custom Consoles (you'll have to follow the links from the home page) Isoraxx from Raxxess and the gCab and ACL PC from AcoustiLock Any and all information much appreciated. Cheers,

Re: Computer Noise Reduction
Hey T.W.-
I haven't owned those, but DID build my own for an older Belch-Moo 4000, and it yielded a huge difference. Now that I have built my own new ConFuser, the UniBlab Belchfire6000, the DocBlase Iso-Box is no longer in use as such, but it was a big help in its day. Having had that experience, I can say retrospectively that an air-pump system with a blower in another room using accordion type expandable aluminum and fixed aluminum dryer ducting to carry cool air into and away from the box would have be a part of any ISO box I'd make today. You really don't need to spend a lot of money for this thing, but if any iso box has fans locally (on its' case) it will inevitably make noise all its own... and you must provide air turnover, or the temp. will soar and the machine will stop. An enclosed box with a door that opens easily and shuts snugly (using cupboard pinch roller-clamps) and flanges for air exchange on the back is really the basic need, IMO. Put wheels on it or a clear door and it's nicer, but those are not essential. My main reaction to the commercially made ones is that although they are nice looking, they also seem to be priced about five times what they "should be" when viewed from my Scottish do-it-yourselfer perspective. |
