Default Digi 002 - Hard Drive -laptop (NO FIREWIRE SETUP)

Hello Everybody... blessed 2015...

I've just received my new digi 002 rack and realised that my also new laptop (lenovo G500) doesn't have a firewire connection or PCIe slot....ouch!

research has lead made me understand that i can record directly into an external hard drive, that is connected to the computer and my digi002.... In other words, i can go from my laptop to the hard drive, and then to digi 002

I've also read that the USB 3.0 "provides equivalent performance" especially in regards to hard drive transfer speeds.

learning this, I'm looking at this enclosure :
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/ME3QH7500GB/

This was recommended by http://www.infoworld.com/article/261...-firewire.html

now with this said, I was wondering, would pro tools 8 work if i connect my laptop to the hard drive via USB 3.0 and then the digi 002 to the hard drive via firewire?

.................................................. ..................................

I have a similar enclosure and could check that for you. I am not sure that can actually work! Can you wait until tomorrow?

Whether it works or not, its likely a smart investment anyway(assuming you need a recording drive). If it doesn't work with the 002, its still very likely to work with your laptop and a new USB interface(you may be facing replacement of the old 002)

I'm a little confused, you have a Lenovo laptop, but are linking to an article about Apple?

If you're trying to connect the hard drive using USB, and the 002 off the hard drive using the hard drive firewire port then no, that will not work. The 002 drivers are looking for a firewire device, if the 002 gets detected at all (I don't think it will) the drivers definitely wont see it over the USB bus.

If you posted the Apple article because your laptop has a Thunderbolt port, then that might work.
