Is PRO TOOLS the right software for me?
I am currently a user of REAPER.
I am a singer and I have a condenser MIC that is connected via a Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 MIC interface. The biggest challenge is to get ZERO latency for my MIC. Using the settings to deal with this issue is something I am simply unfamiliar with. So, I currently have to pay someone to fix it! Is it easy to deal with latency issues in PRO TOOLS, or, would it be best to just stick with REAPER and pay someone to fix the latency for me? Here is what I am doing with the software. I love to sing. I am NOT a PRO singer trying to record music to sell. I am just having fun singing to share with family and friends. Nothing more, nothing less. What do you think I should do? |

Re: Is PRO TOOLS the right software for me?
No. Stay with Reaper, join the reaper forum, ask the question there and they will help you with the latency. No need to switch to Pro Tools for what you do. No need to hire someone to optimize the latency.

Re: Is PRO TOOLS the right software for me?
“Zero latency” is a function of the audio hardware not the software DAW. There are no DAWs with zero latency (it’s not possible though some have very, very small latency like using ProTools HDX hardware.)
Get a better hardware audio interface if yours doesn’t have direct monitoring. Direct monitoring sends back two streams of audio from the inputs (including microphones): one goes back to your headphones/speakers directly as analog with no latency and the other goes back to your computer to get recorded (that path will still have latency.) That way when you sing you don't experience latency in what you hear. There are plenty of cheap/good audio interfaces with this feature. No need for Pro Tools which is a heavy cost for features you won’t use and won’t solve your issue any better than Reaper. You’d have to go up to HDX versions before ProTools would start to help your issue (entry cost >$5000)
