Default Order of plug-ins? (11R)

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone could please check out the order of the plug-ins in one of my PT sessions? Any suggestions?

The pic should be here:

Thanks,
David

Nothing wrong with the order, but you should consider putting the D-Verbs on aux tracks instead of the audio tracks. It's CPU-efficient, and will allow multiple tracks to share the reverbs, which in turn can sound more homogenic. For instance a hammond organ and a guitar amp sharing the same room can sound great. Some prefer the eq before the compressor. Some prefer the other way around. I've heard stellar mixes from both camps.

How does it sound to you?

The only thing that really raised an eyebrow to me was you vox chain. Personally, I would instantiate a 1 band eq, set to high pass filter around 90-120 to filter out any low end info before I compressed it all into the mix. Of course as mentioned I agree about the use of aux's for your time based fx like verb, dly, etc...
You also might get good results with more than one compressor on the track as well, each doing a little work, vs 1 doing it all. This becomes subjective quick though, its not like you are doing anything "wrong", just depends on what the track needs...

Thank you guys so much for the suggestions. It's much appreciated. It sounds okay to me but I know little about mixing & using PT on an expert level.

PT Lover, could you please explain how to put the D-verb on an aux track? I have failed before trying to do this.

Lincol1, I'll try putting the EQ above the compressor.

If you guys wanted to hear the track, it's called "Elevated" & it's on the links in my signature.

Thanks again,
David

Sure, I'm in a good mood since I got so many awesome gifts from family and friends.
  • Create a stereo aux
  • Instantiate D-Verb on the aux
  • Choose any free bus pair as the inputs for this aux. For instance, Bus 1-2
  • Rename the bus pair by right-clicking the inputs on the aux, and choose Rename. For instance, "Vocal Verb"
  • Make sure the outputs on this aux goes to your preferred outputs. For instance, MainOut L/R
  • Command-click the solo button on the aux track to solo-safe it. By doing so, this aux will always throughput audio even if you solo other tracks
Now you can create a send on the vocal track "Voc_a", choose "Vocal Verb" as the destination, raise the send fader, and voilá - you are done!

BTW - renaming busses is just a good way to work - it's not absolutely necessary. I think it's a pain to remember what "Bus 15-16" is.

Thanks PT Lover! Get any music gear?

Lincoln, I'm trying your suggestion out. I'm trying out your suggestion; right now, the input is at 0 dB, the filter is at 1, Freq is 105 Hz, Gain is at 0 dB, & type is at Peak. Sound good? Thanks again.

What sounds good is your attitude, you (like the rest of us) will learn a bunch like that. What I suggested is a very generic application that you will find the best results after much experimentation. Have fun...

Lol, no I didn't get any gear. I've specifically said that I don't want any gear. I think about gear the rest of the year.

Remember one of the most important things I learned is that there are no rules. Only guidelines. Whiles it's clear that you have gotten some excellent advice on this thread already, one thing you will also learn is what works for you. So while PT lover's excellent instructions on how to use a verb or delay through a send, you might come across a mix that works for you on an insert possibly or maybe not. Just remember there are no rules. Everyone has their own paint brush.

Both Caruso and PT Lover are right, it is indeed more efficient to use verbs on an aux return so as to be able to use it as a common room and glue the mix together, but sometimes an instrument requires a treatment that separates it from the rest and gives it it's own space and/or having the reverb be a part of the sound itself rather than an ambience to be shared by others. Caruso is spot on when he says "guidelines not rules"
