So what happens if I go out and buy an Mbox right now? Do I get PT9 with it?

So to sum up....I think....
if you buy an mbox this year, you will have get 8.04 LE software, and you will have to pay $249 to upgrade to PT9
If you buy an mbox from January 2011, you will get PT9 bundled, but they will add $300 to the price of an mbox.

An extra $300 for an Mbox with PT 9 included!?

That's depressing...

Well they can't exactly keep selling a hardware box for $399 that includes a $599 piece of software. I guess if you look at it the other way, if you're looking at PT9 for $599 you can get an interface for just $100 more.

The link I posted to speaking of the $300 increase was on a 003 Rack. Not sure about mbox pricing.

This is a big change for AVID/Digi. I think they should reward their loyal customers who have spent many years buying their hardware, which I think is really what built the success of Digidesign, and enabled the software to become industry standard. I myself have bought Audiomedia II, Session 8, a Protools III system ($20,000+) as well as 3 mbox's, and a digi 002....not to mention plugins, toolkits, upgrades etc.
I'm a little disappointed at the $250 upgrade cost ($100 would have been more understandable maybe). As well as not rewarding loyalty, this is also a statement from Avid 'We are about to render your Digidesign LE hardware worthless and probably obsolete within months, and we'll charge you $250 for the privilege'

Man this is unreal, we have begged asked whined cryed etc etc, for Digi/Avid to give us more, ADC, more tracks more features to bring us closer to HD + no dongles, and when we get it, all we do is ask beg cry whine and complain about it. It's downright comical LE owners are unhappy because it costs too much and HD owners because it costs too little. $250 is reasonable price to pay for all the features included in this upgrade. YOU DO NOT GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING EVER!! and much less get a heck of a lot for little. Frankly loyalty is being rewarded, the retail price of the software is not $250, stop complaining, basque in the beauty of what Pro Tools has become.

OH, alright then. I suppose you're right....though it kills me to not complain (don't you know, it comes with age, the right to complain?)
