Can Both The Digi 002 Rack & 003 Rack Be Used Together?

I currently own the Digi 002 Rack. I'm looking to purchase the Digi 003 Rack. I would like to know if both Rack Systems can be used together while working in ProTools? Thanks.

Short answer is no. Protools only works with one interface at a time. You can however use each on a separate computer and synch the two via MIDI. If you are looking to increase the number of simultaneous inputs, the more appropriate method is to get an ADAT based Micpre-A/D converter type device.

Can more than one 003R be used together? 003R + 003 Control?

I would think that a number of 003 could be on the same FW network?

If you can not use (2) 003 at once on the same FW, this destroys my plans!

But remember, never loose sight of Digi's marketing stragery! The answer I usually get is "NO, it can't be done!", . . . unless I buy the real Pro Tools gear at huge dollars. It is really differcult to build a medium channel count PT system EVEN with PT 8.x LE.

As stated above, PTLE can only work with one interface at a time. That means a maximum of 18 simultaneous inputs. 8 analog, 8 via optical ADAT (using a connected AD converter device like the Focusrite Octopre, Mackie Onyx, Presous DigiMax, Behringer AD8000, etc.), and 2 via SPDIF digital coax. Sorry if that "destroys your plans" as this is really a case of "NO, it can't be done!" If you need more that 18 simultaneous inputs, PTLE is not the solution.

AVID recently announced Protools HD Native which is a bit more affordable than the full blown PTHD TDM systems but still a considerably more expensive system after adding the I/O options.

I can live with 18 I/O but that count is at 48kHz correct?

you know I never thought of this, but, can the 002R or Mix be used in standalone mode and lightpiped to the 003 effectively increasing input count?

The DigiOO2 (control surface version) has a stand alone mode but not the Digi002R (rack mount version). I am not aware that in stand alone mode, if the analog inputs can be routed to the ADAT or SPDIF outputs. I've only used the stand alone mode once at a live gig to mix 6 of the 8 analog ins to the main analog outs 1 & 2.

Again, you are much better off going with an 8 channel ADAT based MicPre and A/D converter unit like a Presonus DigiMax FS. You are over thinking the problem and making it harder than it should be.

Yea the 002c will route the incoming audio to the adat out pre-fader in standalone mode.
Done this with 002c to 002r through the adat. However, since its prefader its only passing signal. Still need pres on ch 5-8.
