I am skeptical about this approach. Migration Assistant requires an OS installation to run. I am not certain that Migration Assistant will migrate an entire OS from one machine to another. It can migrate /Users, /Library, some settings, and other files.

If it works, I will be gladly proven wrong. If it fails, try installing the v10.8.4 combo updater. The combo updater is supposed to update every file since the release of v10.8.0. Unless Apple has checks in the installation process for not overwriting newer files, this should be a way to revert to v10.8.4.

My problem might be related to this as well. I just bought a Macbook Air 2013 model (i5, 128GB SSD, 4GB RAM running 10.8.5) just to do some basic editing and up to 8 channels of recording in the future. I have PT10 (latest) and PT11 (latest) both installed.

I opened up a session of mine in PT11 that I recorded elsewhere, basic session, 7 audio tracks, no plugins, no VI's etc. I played the tracks back at 1024 buffer, no problem. 512, no problem. 256, no problem. Anything lower than 256 I get DAE -6101 error. Tried the same session in PT10 and I can't get lower than 512. CPU usage is like 3% and then it spikes up for a brief second and I get the error.

This worries me as one of the reasons I got the machine was to record up to 8 channels of audio, but it can't even play back 7 channels at 128 buffer :L

My interface is an Audient iD22 btw, I've also tried with my old Focusrite 2i2 and internal audio.

EDIT: found this also http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...kbase&filter=0

I've never done it, so I'm also not sure if it will work. If I buy an new imac and it comes with 10.8.5, I'll definitely try it though just to see.

But just for fun, I did try opening migration assistant, and I don't remember the second option of transferring to a mac being there before(last time I used this was almost 4 years ago on snow leopard), so this very well may work.

I've have just spend the last 8 hours trying to reinstall OS X hoping I could get the 10.8.4 back. Unfortunately this could not be done.... Even though my computer was shipped with 10.8.4 it installs the newest version. I did not have a backup of 10.8.4.

My late 2013 imac runs PT10.3.7 with no issues on 10.8.4 and 10.8.5. Though it was very odd to install - I had to wipe the disc again - install OS then 10.3.7 first otherwise it would bail 3/4 the way through launch.

PT11 runs on 10.8.5 but has high CPU bug (see my other thread) - but no 6101's.

Very strange... I wonder if there is some very specific hardware dependencies on how these things are showing up. FWIW - the high CPU bug is on 10.8.4 and 10.8.5 - PT11.0.0 through 11.0.2

Have you tried using the recovery partition that exists on your Mac? You can access it by following this page: http://www.apple.com/osx/recovery/
Basically you hold down the command and 'r' keys as the computer boots up and you should be presented with a list of options.

Actually I tried all the options... First I only did a reinstallation of Mountain Lion without erasing anything. When that didn't work I'm tried erasing my hard drive and then install a new copy of Mountain Lion. But it was still 10.8.5 that was installed. By the end I did a restore from my Time Machine backup.

The thing is, when you reinstall Mountain Lion with the Recovery Tool it downloads the copy from a server, and apparently this copy is the newest version (10.8.5).

Sadly, Recovery will ONLY install the most current OS. THere are no options to change this. I talked to applecare about this also. I have heard an Apple Store may be able to put 10.8.4 on a machine but have no confirmation

It should only do that if the OSX Recovery finds a problem according to the page I linked to.

I'm sorry but Martin is 100% correct. There is no way I know (or applecare knows) using recovery tools to go to an earlier OS rev than is current. You can only go "back" if you have a time machine backup or disc image to restore of the earlier rev.
