Mobile Recording (mbox question)
I have an 003, so I'm not familiar with the mbox line up...
Will a new Mbox (not pro) with USB 2.0 work efficiently with a new Apple MacBook (not pro).?? Also, for additional I/O - can I connect my PreSonus DigiMax FS via the S/PIDF to get additional I/O? Looking for a good, affordable mobile rig to do some live recording in 2011 - hopefully using components I already have (sans Mbox). Thanks! paul g

Re: Mobile Recording (mbox question)
The issue your going to have is lack of firewire connectivity when it comes to the newer macbooks.
Your going to need at least the 13" MBP with FW800 to get any sort of half way decent mobile rig. The MBox's have never support ADAT so connectivity of your Digmax won't be possible. Something like an Audient Mico could connect to an Mbox via spdif.

Re: Mobile Recording (mbox question)
Plus, a MacBook without firewire will restrict you to recording to the internal drive(NOT a good idea0. You likely won't get more than a handful of tracks before maxing out the system(at the very least, you should upgrade the drive to a 7200 rpm drive).

And DOH #2 which you all pointed out (in a very kind manner) Yes, the audio drive would have to be firewire... The Macbook doesn't have that. So I see no affordable solution to this issue... Which means, I'll either have to rent gear, or turn down the job. Or, cart my factory 003, iMac and Digi Max FS to the gig... (Not a good idea). p

Re: Mobile Recording (mbox question)
Get a pre owned older macbook pro, you can probably get it for less than a new macbook, take the 003 and presonus with you, all solved

Re: Mobile Recording (mbox question)
Make sure you are running a backup while recording on a laptop... If the system crashes during a recording you are in big trouble. I always carry a small portable hand recorder (zoom h4) and split the microphone cable so that it feeds both sources... Laptop recording is notorious for being unstable!
