Default DV Quicktime look really bad in PT 7

Hi All,
DV Quicktime movies look really bad sense PT7. The image looks very fuzzy but deinterlaced. In PT6 DV movies look crisp and sharp but are interlaced. Seems like Digi tried to solve the jittery DV out firewire port on a mac in PT 7 by deinterlacing the frames. We do not need this feature on windows because we can not send DV out firewire the port. I can't really cut SFX in PT 7 because of the extremely poor QT movie problems.
Thanks,
Brandon

We didn't do anything with deinterlacing movies - most likely this is caused by a preference setting in Quicktime.

Launch Quicktime and go to Edit>Preferences>Quicktime Preferences. Click on the 'Advanced' tab and, in the Video section, select the option for 'Safe Mode (GDI Only)', then click Apply and quit. Your movie should now look better in Pro Tools.

Hi Digi,
I tried this. I'm still getting really bad looking DV. Big square pixals. The DV movie was mad in I movie on a mac. On Pt 6.9 it looks really crisp. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Brandon

What does the movie look like if you open it up in Quicktime directly?

I'm assuming you're opening the movie in Quicktime on the same machine as Pro Tools, yes?

If you import the movie into a new session, does it look any different? What is your movie priority set to and does changing it affect the movie at all?

If you download a movie from Quicktime.com and use that in your session, does it look any different?

So, did I understand correctly that PTHD on WinXP can not play back QT DV via firewire port? Damn. I was counting on using a Canopus over the weekend since I can't get a Mojo with MedaStation|PT to work properly.

Has anyone else here dove into the Avid Mojo world yet? I find that Pro Tools seems to NEED OMF files with embedded video media, but when I try to export a longer show (40 minutes) from MediaStation|PT, anything longer than 10 minutes will crash MediaStation and then the app will never boot again until uninstalling MSPT,AND Pro Tools and then re-installing both.

What IS the good way to get firewire playback from WinXP these days? I have both Canopus and Mojos, but like everyone else here, I can't put everything on hold while I wait for PT 7.2...

Thx:)

I've looked all over the net for something that can output a dv-stream through firewire on a pc, but you need another program to play the video.

Something like Sony Vegas MTC-locked to PT would do the job I think.

Don't have a Mojo so I wouldn't know how that works.

It shouldn't be that difficult to program though. A codec that picks up dv-streams and sends it to the firewire port... one can only hope Vista integrates this like OSX.

nope... same problem here still. Maybe in 7.2 (which may be released today).
