If you are receiving any errors regarding drives not being suitable for playback or not being an audio record volume, try the following:

In Pro Tools, go to the Windows menu and select 'Show Workspace'. In the Workspace window you will see a list of your drives on the left and to the right of each drive will be an 'A'(for Audio) and a 'V'(for Video) column. Under the 'A' column next to your drive it will probably have a 'T'(for Transfer) or 'P'(for Playback) - click on the 'T' or 'P' and, from the drop down list, choose 'Record'.

You should now be able to open, play and record in your session as normal.

If your drive will not change to a Record volume, you may need to reformat the drive. CARE Back-up the data as the reformat may erase the HD contents.

On Mac OSX - use the Disk Utility to reformat the drive as Mac OS Extended.

Trashing Prefs/DDB's and repairing permissions would probably do no harm either.

If you are using Windows XP, you need to be sure your new data disk is configured as BASIC and *not* DYNAMIC!

Check this Microsoft link for more detail on the difference:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314343

DYNAMIC disks are for situations where you are going to be doing RAID, etc. Pro Tools doesn't seem to play well with such disks.

So configure your disk as BASIC *before* making any paritions and formatting them:

"Control Panel" ---> "Computer Managment ---> "Disk Management" ---> "Properties" of the new disk

Obviously, if you already have data on that disk / partition, be sure to back it up first, then write it back out after you've made the change.

your permissions may be read/wright but this is a designation via Workspace issue and I have seen drives change designation for no apparent reason
so open up the Workspace browser and change the designation to R on you drives
then report back
