Upgrade from PTLE 5.1 24 tracks to 5.1 32 tracks
Finally getting around to doing some (hopefully) smart upgrading.
My PTLE 5.0.1 serial number is not working for the download of 5.1 32 tracks. Digi did send me a PTLE 5.1 disc for free shortly after I purchased my 001 a few years ago, but I guess this latest 5.1 upgrade is not another free one? ------------------------------ Digi001 G4 Sawtooth 400mHz 20GB 448MB (-->1472MB?) Re: Upgrade from PTLE 5.1 24 tracks to 5.1 32 tracks
Fred,
I'm not 100% sure of this, but I believe you need the serial number from your upgraded version of PT 5.1. The upgrade from 5.1 to the latest 5.1 version(not sure of the exact # and it's still considered beta version by Digi) with 32 tracks is a free upgrade if you already have PT 5.1. You might also want to upgrade your MacOS. I'm currently using 9.2.2 with the upgrade you're looking to use. It's a bit of a pain to upgrade from 9.0.4 to 9.2.2(3 separate upgrades), but it works fine and I'm happy I did it. Walter

Re: Upgrade from PTLE 5.1 24 tracks to 5.1 32 tracks
Thanks Walter. The only serial number I have is the one that came with my 001, on the inside of the cover of the Quick Start Guide. And that's a v5.0.1 number. I have the 5.1 disc that Digi sent me, but I don't think they sent me a new serial number.

Fred,
The 5.1 upgrade kits would have came with a 5.1 serial number as well. Go ahead and fill out the TSR form below with your registration information and we can send you a replacement 5.1 serial number. http://www.digidesign.com/tsr/ Mike |

Re: Upgrade from PTLE 5.1 24 tracks to 5.1 32 tracks
OK, I managed to download the PTLE 32T Beta using the 5.0.1 serial no. on the inside cover of my OO1 Quick Start Guide. I also downloaded the PTLE 5.1.1 Updater. However, when I try to run the 5.1.1 updater I get the following error message:
Pro Tools software version 5.1 is required before this installation can proceed. I then click OK and get: An error occured that prevented the installation from completing. FWIW, I have the 5.1 PTLE disc and 5.1 is properly installed. G4 AGP 400mhz 448mb |

Re: Upgrade from PTLE 5.1 24 tracks to 5.1 32 tracks
You got it right Ariel. With a G4 400 I can't see the logic in upgrading to anything beyond OS 9.1. And I'm not even sure of the advantages of 9.1 with respect to audio applications. In fact, now I can't use SoundEdit 16 (won't work under 9.1) so if anything it's subtracted from what I had with 9.0.4. Someone please tell me what 9.1 adds to a DAW.
Here's the way I see it: Stability <-------------------------------------> Speed OSX<--------------------->OS9<--------------->MSWindows I *never* experience crashes under PT with either OS9.0.4 or OS9.1. (But my friends tell me about crashes with their OSX systems. Go figure.). I believe I can complete any audio project faster on my G4/400 with OS 9 than I could with the same machine loaded with OS9.2.2/OS10.x. So I'm not tempted by all the OSX/PT6 hoopla. I'm planning on getting some more RAM. It just seems like the prices never go down at Crucial. I need a couple of 512 sticks and another 256 stick. I've been burned with bad RAM from other mfrs (that were recommended on the DUC) in the past. |
