Default Problems with REX files & mp3\'s !

Hi There,

When I import .rex files into pro-tools it is just importing them as the audio file. It is not importing them as a region group with all the chopped audio nested underneath it. I have tried dragging to the track list, edit window and region list but nothing makes a difference it just does the same thing. What I find strange is that in the workspace window it is recognised as a rex file and shows as a tick based audio file. I ahve been into prefs and also tried having import rex files as region groups ticked and not icked, again, no difference.

2nd problem

Whenever I try to import (in every possible import method) a mp3 file Pro-Tools freezes and crashes !

I use rex files alot as I also use reason 4 in cahoots with pro-tools but I want to use P-T more and am looking to start doing my projects in P-T only if possible.

I have no problems with any other functions in pro-tools, as far as I am aware it's just these things !

My Specs are;

Pro-Tools 7.4 cs2
digi 002R
windows xp
intel quad core 2.4 ghz
2GB ram
2 x 400 GB western digital (WDC WD4000AAKS-22YGA0) hard drives 7200RPM using NTFS file system
my pc is custom built with a asus p5k motherboard

Are you sure that it is a properly created/sliced rex file? Not all rex files are created correctly. Could you possibly post one of the problem rex files somewhere?

As for the mp3 import, do you have Quicktime installed?

Hi mate,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I do have quiktime installed on my PC but I only installed it yesterday so I could watch an mp4 video (which then didn't work, typical). I have not tried to load in an mp3 since I installed quiktime yesterday, will it make a difference ?

RE - the rex files, I'm pretty sure they are proper rex's as I put the same ones into recylce to check the meta data on them as I was doing some bpm matching via beat detective. Also 2 of the rex files I tried using came with my Pro Tools 110 exercises that I was doing some practice with.

I'll get one up'd via sendspace and post the link on here at some point tonight. Cant atm as i'm off to my mate's to write some tunes in a mo' !

I just installed 7.4cs4 yesterday so I'll see if that has fixed any bugs as well

Yes, absolutely. Quicktime is required when using Pro Tools; not only for importing mp3 files, but for basic activities such as saving the preferences.
