Default PT12/Apollo 8 plugins issue

Hello,

Just set up my Apollo 8 & Pro Tools 12 for the first time (finally retired the Mbox2). Everything is running smoothly, sounds great etc. except for one thing:

When I plug my electric guitar into the HI-Z input on the Apollo I hear it just fine. The lights bounce on the DAW and in the PT Mix window audio track channel. However when I insert an effects plugin (reverb, delay, whatever) or amp simulator (Amplitube 4 in this case), the plugin doesn't work. I've tried arming the record button (that used to work with the MBox) but nothing. As far as I can see, everything else is workng between PT and Apollo - instrument plugins play just fine, and I can add effects pluins to these no problem. It's just the audio track/effect plugin that's puzzling me. There used to be something called Pro Tools mode in the Apollo, but Apollo 8 doesn't have this, so I'm guessing there is a single command or button that needs pressing somewhere. Any thoughts?

Thank you!

bb

I feel like I've had this problem randomly in the past, but with a limiter plug in. I usually make a new track, restart the session, power cycle everything, one of those variations. Is this problem repeatable?

You, sir, are a genius, thank you!

I should say, the reason I had LLM on is because it said to do this in the UA Apollo setup/authorisation video. Will this be a problem if I keep it off?

Thanks again, you have made my Saturday!

Well do you want low latency or not (and Pro Tools plugins)? It is entirely your choice what you do here. And with an Apollo 8 *while tracking* I guess UAD is assuming you run their plugins (and only their plugins) in the Apollo console, so it makes sense what they show... Essentially showing off the low latency capability of the UAD plugins in the console.

The hard issue you will run into is needing to increase the playback buffer size when you use UAD plugins at mix time within pro tools.

Thanks Darryl.

Well, I guess I will continue to use my 3rd party plugins (Waves, IK, NI, Izotope, etc etc.) as normal. The 14 UAD plugins that come with the Apollo are great, but limited (e.g. no instruments). So, unless I invest in more UAD plugins I'll keep working with what I've got for now and deal with super-low latency requirements as and when.

cheers,
bb

The bad thing about UAD are many of their plugins are so nice... And I really wish they would port to native as well.

You won't see sampled instruments there, makes no sense to run those on DSP, but they do have amp sims.
