Default Consolidating track names that end in C, L, or R???

Hello!

Is there a way to change the behavior of how a track in pro tools gets named when consolidating? I'm doing drum samples, and decided to list the velocities as A, B, C, etc. so that they are organized appropriately.

Problem is, when I get to C, it changes to i.e. "Kick_01 C", where as everything else is "Kick A_01" etc. That makes it a little confusing because when the kick says "Kick_01 C", it's corresponding stereo overhead sample just says "Overhead_01", and I'm assuming it won't label a stereo track with a C (center) at the end of it because it's stereo?? It makes it hard to keep track of all of the C hits.

Another example is with naming a guitar track "GTR L", and when consolidating it, it turns into "GTR_01 L", where I'd prefer it to consolidate as "GTR L_01". I'm assuming it's doing the same with C for "center"?

Is there a way to change this behavior in a preference somewhere?

No, I don't think there's any way to change how Pro Tools auto-names files. You'd have to rename them - which you can do a batch rename. You're probably right about L, R and C being reserved for left, right and center. Maybe use X, Y, Z instead??

Got ya! Thanks for the reply! It's so strange that it does that; a bit of a pain! haha

I'll have to look into batch rename! I have to upgrade all of my OS and PT version first, so it may be a minute, but thank you for the heads up! More incentive to do that faster! hahah

Thanks again and God bless!

Mike.

No, you can't change the behavior, but just add an underscore instead of a space before the L,C, OR R and all will behave as you want. IOW, "Kick_C" will consolidate and playlist correctly.

Oh, good point with the underscore! Thanks for the heads up and God bless!

Just remember it changes the names of the clips, not the names of the audio files.

Yes but there's another step you can go through to rename the actual files.

Cntrl-Shft-R for Batch Clip Rename then Cmd-Shft-R to rename the files to the Clip name.

One of the last steps I do before I mix a track is to name all of the audio files what they are _final.

I find by using that it keeps things clean and organized. YMMV
