I'm not completely certain but people may be confusing the two flavors of PT Academic -- Educational and Student. Educational [or Educator, I forget thee official title] is purchased by schools or teachers; Student is purchased by students. Perhaps the Educational version is $99 to upgrade while the Student version remains free for four years?

11 is not free to EDU users. But it's still a bargain.
I don't know if they are legally bound to providing 4 years of free upgrades, but it strongly appears as if they aren't...
Russ was not correct, he blended Student and Academic.

Academic is for schools and pay a fee

Student version get's its 4 years of updates

Well I bought PT10 + Media Composer 6.5 student bundle with 4 years of free upgrades only last autumn, so that kind of deal has been available until quite recently. It didn't stop when PT10 was released, that's for sure.

Hi there, I bought PT 10 last september on a student discount through my University in UK, Master Degree in Audio Production
I would like to know whether I am eligible for an upgrade to PT 11?
I posted this here as I could not find the answer anywhere else on the site.

Also will PT11 work with Digi002? or is unknown as yet (testing phase) ?

Thank you

Thanks for the fast reply, yes I have students license, that's great then
To bad for the Digi002 it's useless to me now, I guess a third party should buy the rights for the drivers, (however that works in the programming world)

Thanks

Default Pro Tools Students jacked!!!

Pro Tools Students jacked!!! I purchased Pro Tools 2 years ago with the agreement that I was going to get 4 years of upgrades.

Upgrade to Pro Tools 11 is $99. This is a breach of contract!

I demand my free upgrades until my 4 years expire!

Im pretty sure they said they are not changing the agreement, but for people buying NOW, instead of free, it will be $99 or whatever they said.

They will eventually post all the pricing info on Avid.com

They actually said all current academic contacts will be honoured. It's just new ones which will incur $99 upgrade costs in future.

But knowing Avid webinars this may or may not be correct information.
