Default 5.1 SFX Libraries

What are you guys using?
I've talked to several SFX companies and I'm not satified w/ what they are producing.
They want a small fortune for a small selection.
I basically want a nice selection of ambience beds.
They keep saying soon, soon...

What type of eqipment would I need o make my own Library?
I made my own for stereo work with a porta dat and two shotgun mics.

IMO that's all you need, I think 5.1 libraries can be overrated. As long as you have a long enough stereo (or even mono) recording of an ambiance you can create a perfectly good sounding 5.1 ambiance.

just my 2 cents.

i would agree with JR. so far, i have not found them that useful. when you record, get different perspectives and different depths, they will work just fine. and in many cases better. that is what we have been doing and finding it successful

...just started doing prairie recordings this way....
