Step Input doesn't help with the OP's question regarding input of chords without a MIDI controller though.

Step input just automatically quantizes a lick that you play without the need to process it. Great for playing a fast lick that you can't play in time. Skips the processing step.

Still need a MIDI controller to play chords.

Actually you don't need a MIDI controller to play (more appropriately in this case - enter) chords.

12step is one of my best purchase this year. With this foot controller you can do anything you want. 2.0 editor software is freakin' awesome. Using KMI MIDI Expander I can also control Korg Volca Keys or other synths or VIs.

67 presets right out of the box.

Not all of us are Ray Charles or Ray Manzarek.

You don't have to be either; chords are basic piano technique. The hard part comes from selecting which inversion to play that fits the music.
