Default double speed playback, no audio

Hi all...

Running Mbox2Pro, 7.4cs7 and have the problem described here:
Pro Tools 7.3 Mbox 2 Pro double clock speed, No Audio.

In one instance, Mbox 2 Pro with Pro Tools 7.3 and Windows XP, Pro Tools exhibits strange clocking or transport behavior, with the transport moving at double speed and no audio output. The solution was to configure the PC properly, do not use a secondary user account, and shut the computer down, then power on (use shut down from start menu, rather than restart)

This happened once before right after installing Nero. I uninstalled Nero, and it's been fine until today (about a month and a half)

The system also exhibits a digital clicking, slightly random in pattern, but consistent - even more so after exiting PT.

I've followed the info in the general troubleshooting re:msconfig, etc, and I'm about to reinstall pro tools, but thought I'd throw this out to the gurus.

Here's the Sandra report.. Should the Mbox be showing up by name somewhere? Onboard audio is disabled in the Bios, as is Speedstepping etc as described in the Best desktops thread. I've tried with network adapter both on and off - no change...

Is there something I'm missing?

SiSoftware Sandra

Update:

I reinstalled PT and there was no change.

I have now replaced the Mbox 2 Pro with my original Mbox, and it's working.

So, this means to me the problem has to do with Firewire - either the Mbox 2 Pro, or the card, which is a TI chipset. It's not the 2 port one that Digi recommends, but it is basically the same except with 3 ports: "SIIG NN-400012-S8 : Triple-Port IEEE1394a Firewire (3x Ext) PCI Controller Card"

I need to do some work now, so at some point I'll try the Mbox 2 pro on my previous computer running 7.3 and see if that tells me anything.

If anyone has some more troubleshooting tips, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks,
Kevin

Update 2:

In looking at IRQs in the device manager, I saw that the firewire card was sharing an IRQ with "Microsoft UAA bus Driver for high Definition Audio"

Onboard audio is disabled in BIOS, so I'm not sure what this is about.

In any case, I swapped slots for the firewire card, and now they are not sharing an IRQ, and I'm back up and running.

Hope this helps someone... especially me!

Kevin

Update 3...

Back in the studio the next morning after a day of everything fine, and I'm back to my original problem again.

A few more details about what's going on: After a reboot I hear random clicking in the monitors - every 5-10 seconds or so. If I open a session, the CPU RTAS meter goes up to about 2/3 (normally about 1/6 on this session) and playback is double speed - QT is fast, meters are moving along fast, but no sound is being output.

When I quit PT, clicking in the monitors is louder and more frequent, probably 2 or 3 clicks/second.

I tried swapping the slot for the firewire card again (but did not reinstall PT yet) but it made no difference.

Once again, I've hooked up the origninal Mbox (USB) and Pro Tools is working normally.

My guess is it's the firewire card, but it could be the Mbox2Pro - anything I can do to narrow it down before RMAing?

Anything else to try? Do you need more information to offer an opinion?

I've got a mix to finish, but I should be able to troubleshoot more tomorrow, so any suggestions are welcome...

Thanks!

Kevin

Is IRQ sharing still happening?

When I started this morning, no IRQ sharing was occurring - just as I had left it according to post #3.

I swapped slots, and the sharing is occuring again.

Actually - IRQ sharing is happening in both slots, it was the "Microsoft UAA bus driver" that I was originally concerned with, but there are one or two other things that are being shared when installed on either slot.

I can get details of those if you want...

Thanks for checking in...
