Default Buying Pro Tools Express then the crossgrade to Pro tools 11

Hi everyone,

If I bought Avid Fast Track Solo With Pro Tools Express £109

http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardwa...xpress--106353

and then bought Upgrade and Support Plan for Pro Tools | Software (12 Months) £156

https://shop.avid.com/ccrz__ProductD...00&&store=shop

Just want to make sure is that a viable option to get started with pro tools 11 ?

Yeah, theoretically this should work out.
However I would recommend to buy the PT Express-to-PT11 from Sweetwater rather then
from the Avid store as there you can get personal support for the whole procedure easily.
Further there were reports from people who experienced issues trying to upgrade via the
Avid store however could get it done finally by the help of the guys at Sweetwater.
As the upgrade is only codes and downloads there will be no delivery costs from abroad
for the upgrade only.
The Fast Track you better buy from the link you have posted as it´s hardware and probably
less delivery costs from a UK based reseller.
If you haven´t got such a one you will have to buy one of those too. Required for PT11.

For the PT Express-to-PT11-upgrade you may check out this site.

Anyway the best of success to you,

cheers, VRW

That is exactly what I did. I bought a fast track solo through Amazon (for like $80--which also came with a much-needed iLok) and then bought the upgrade through Sweetwater. I sold the fast track solo (didn't need it), kept the iLok, and am rockin' PT 11 with (now) minimal issues.

From what I'm reading, the support plan doesn't cover upgrades from LE or Express.

It looks like you need to purchase a Pro Tools Express to Pro Tools 11 crossgrade unless I'm really not seeing something.

Either way, a Sweetwater sales rep should be able to help you.

I'm planning to do this myself, but just wanted to check: do you need to actually install protools express in order to activate the crossgrade, or can you just install the crossgrade?

You have to install express first.

Why? All that should matter is you have an Pro Tools Express license asset on an iLok that that will be surrendered in the upgrade process.

Avoiding installing and uninstalling unneeded software is a good idea.

A related question: if you would do this now, would you automatically get an upgrade to PT 12?

And does that then include 12 months of upgrades & support? Or would you have to get on a $99/yr Update Plan before the end of 2015 to not be required to get the $299 reinstatement fee? I'm a bit confused...
