Can't connect microphone. going insane!

I have a simple md-1000 and i can't get it to work with pro tools.

-I have it connected to input one.
-the green light is lit over the "mic" selection on my mbox (i have pro tools le)
-I've created a new mono track.
-My input is on in 1 and my out put is on out 1
-I can record my keyboard with no problem
-My mic doesn't do anything except act dead (brand new). The green level has doesnt not receive any sound when i speak into it.
-On the package it doesn't say anything about needing phantom power.
-I'm about to shoot myself in the head from frustration.

You wont see any life in Pro Tools until you record arm the track?

Put phantom power on anyway to make sure. I don't know what mic you have, but as long as its not a ribbon mic, the phantom power won't hurt it. Also, try the Mic/DI switch in both positions. Record to an AUDIO track(using an Instrument track is a common newbie goof, just in case you're a newbie). Check to see if you accidentally selected Input-Only monitoring(which will mean you get nothing as soon as you enter record/play). Maybe none of this will help, but try everything

Unplug whatever you have plugged into the line input for that channel on the Mbox. The 1/4" line jack supercedes the XLR.

Plug some headphones into the mbox and turn the mix knob all the way to the left on the front of the mbox.

Bring your mic gain knob for mic 1 up a good bit.

Make sure the input switch is set to mic.

Tap the mic.

If you can hear the tapping in the headphones then you have determined that the problem is not with the mic.

Could you also tell us the brand name of the mic. I'm not seeing much when searching for an MD-1000
