Default Bounce to disk ONLY realtime posible? Help!!

I'm using the Digi 002 with ProTools 6.4.
When "bouncing down," why does ProTools proceed to play the entire session as it's mixing everything down?
Is there a way around this?
Sometimes I have to work on something that's up to 2 hours long, and the last thing anyone would want in this day and age of fast computers is to have to sit there for an hour as it bounces everything down! Ughh!
Please , is there is a way around this, someone please let me know! Thanks!!!

Christian

HI,

the only way around is to Audiosuite the regions step by step.

Rendering may come in future versions of PT, or maybe not.

But some Freeze feature would be REALLY handy.

But I´d also like to mention that someone mentioned, that REALTIME bounce actually saves time,
because you have to check the final mix for errors anyway, even with freezing/rendering
so you can do it during bounce as well.

But that topic is far open to discussion.

I always use "bounce" time to walk around and listen from outside the room as it often reveals little things that need changing. You can save extra wasted time by highlighting any audio track that runs the full length of the song so that it bounces nothing extra(like the empty space at the end of the song).

Thanks for your tips, but... what about over 2 hours long and simple edits like inteviews and radio programs where speed is a crucial thing?

Thanks in advance,
christian

You could always use "consolodate" or if you need to use "export selected as files" after you consolodate if it's not at the right sample and bit rate.

2 hours!! Yeow that would be a slow Bounce! I'd probably chop that up into more manageable sections or use another program. For stereo files (like a live recording) I would open the file in WaveLab for mastering and editing. With multi-track, I guess you're kind of stuck.

Well, depending on your needs and how your sessions are setup, you could just copy the audio file from the audio folder in your session. If you don't have a bunch of effects and stuff inserted on that track in that session, this should work. For instance, if you are tracking a live gig where everything is already mixed, eq'd, etc. OR if you have imported audio from other sessions where the mixing and stuff is already part of the imported audio.
Again, depending on your setup, you should be able to just copy the audio file(s) (.wav, .aiff, etc) and plop them into your CD burner software or other apps.

In the "good old days," the speed of the bounce to disk (BTD) was limiited by the speed of the computer, which meant that fast computers bounced faster than real time! When people started using external effects, Digi made it so the BTD was in real time so the external effects would be recognized during the bounce.

I, and a lot of other PT users, are hoping that Digi will create a fast bounce option for those of us who are not using external effects and don't need to listen to the mix as it's being bounced. Please Digi!

Yes, why dont you consolidate the region in Pro Tools, then export it fromt he Audio Files list on the right hand side of the Edit Window. If you have any RTAS effects on the track material, you must apply them as Audiosuite, so they are imprinted int he audio file, then you can export the file. Exporting from the "Audio" drop down menu lets you change format but is much faster than real time. Hope that helps.

i use this method to save on Bounce Time;

before I start mixing, I route all the tracks to one single track.

Instead of listening it directly, I listen it through that particular track.

While auditioning the mix, I also record it to the track simultaneously.

By the end of my mixing session, I have an Audio Track with all the effects and levels as perfect as heard.

Although it is in parts, consolidating it to one single file is just a command away.
