Default Field Recorder Workflow -- No Metadata, Timecode Only

Hi all,

I'm decently familiar with FRW, but currently working on a feature and have a problem, completely unable to match anything with FRW to my original production audio tracks.

Some context: The files were transcoded by the DIT in DaVinci, then sent to the picture editor who's using Premiere Pro.

Somewhere along the way, the files have lost all metadata. They still have timecode, but nothing else. File names are different, nothing else matches.

I've just downloaded a trial of Ediload to see if I can find some workaround and get them to match up, but so far no luck with that either.

Screenshot attached (hopefully, if it works) to give an idea of what I'm seeing in Ediload.

Has anyone run into a situation like this? Any ideas on what I can try?

Or is there something different I can request from the DIT or picture editor, if it's not too late at this point?

Any help/ideas much appreciated!

Edit: Hopefully this link works for the image: https://ibb.co/wLk29J3

Thanks for sending your 'Save Support' zip file to me earlier today. I've sent you a reply showing how to match these events by extracting the scene and take numbers from the clip names.

Best regards,

Mark

I would guess this happened in Premiere whilst syncing the sound.

Thanks, Will. Any idea how it could be avoided in the future, or anything I can suggest to the picture editor that would help retain the metadata?

You'd first have to ask if they used Merge Clips to sync. That is a bad idea.

Usually if they sync via Multicam Clips it should retain the sound metadata.

Your filenames look like the usual Premiere renamed files though. It would be a good question for the Assistant Editor if they saw the metadata in the original WAV files before syncing. Need to figure out at what point it was lost.

I would also be having a word to the sound recordist as looking at your screen shot they haven't embedded useful Sound Roll or Scene Number data in the location WAVs. If the scene number in the WAV metadata contained just the scene number, it would be a lot easier to link the WAVs to the scene and take number in the edit list which you can extract from the XML clip name.
