Video Memory Size & PTLE
Hello everyone,
Could someone give me a technical explaination explaining why PTLE (8) is more stable with a video card with a smaller amount of memory? I have a new Radeon dual output card with 521MB VRAM. Is that going to be a show stopper. (I'm sorry, I would post a model #, but I'm at the hospital with my expecting daughter) I have a ASUS P6T Deluxe. Intel i7 920, 6BG (3) triple-pumped ram, and 3 750GB (16MB ) HD. Haven't moved software yet. Thanks in advance!

Re: Video Memory Size & PTLE
First off, congrats on your new baby. I hope she is happy and healthy
I also hope for a solid technical explanation(but I will live without it). It seems to have something to do with how Windows allocates system RAM(in relation to how much memory the video card carries). In any case, a 512 card won't crash an i7(plenty of power there). Proper config on your RAM will make a much bigger performance difference(don't use the AUTO setting, but set manually with the numbers for the actual RAM you have). I'll wait and watch with you in case someone has the full technical scoop.

Re: Video Memory Size & PTLE
What he said, system RAM allocation based on video card memory seems to be the culprit. I run 2 cards with 256 each If I add a 3rd it all goes south with the /3GB switch.
And yes, congrat's on the new addition.

Thanks for the input guys. Do you think using X-FIRE compatible video cards would make any difference? Oh yea, it's a boy - 7 lbs 9 oz. @ 9:22 EST! Cheers!
