All sorts of hardware harmonic distortion emulations can be used together. It's up to your own ears to tell you how you like the resulting sound of any given combination.

Ultimately, if it sounds good, it IS good. But I found with recording tube gear, sometimes running a tube LDC thru a tube preamp and a tube compressor, that it maybe had a bit too much "tube" in it. Now I tend to mix it up a bit(FET mic to a tube pre, tube mic to a SS pre). But as always, let your ears guide you

Well in theory, one is tape emulation, and the other is console emulation, so you're not really duplicating any functions.

They used to use tape machines with consoles, right? What were they for, again?

Well,
I have the NLS and I can not download a demo of HAET because I downloaded it in the past ...
Just do not know if it's worth to spend more money for it.

There is a way to request a demo a second time from Avid?

Each one of them sounds different. HEAT has it's own sound and has quite a profound impact on the stereo field image. It is also, by the way, either a tape emulation or a console emulation. It is your choice to set it to one or the other. It can, as well, generally be set to higher levels of harmonic distortion than the other choices. It is also TDM or DSP, which none of the others are. I use it together with the Slate consol and virtual tape machine plugins all of the time. It's a great combination.

I use NLS & VCC with HEAT all the time. Along with Dave Hill's other fine products, Phoenix & RA....

Heat has a number of different settings that should compliment other analog models.

This question is almost like asking "is there a point in using more than one analog device in the processing chain"

I know in the product description on the Avid site, it mentions console emulation(?) really only by saying "vintage analog consoles",

http://www.avid.com/US/products/HEAT/features

but if you look at the .pdf manual for it, it really only talks about tube harmonics or tape emulation.

http://akmedia.digidesign.com/suppor..._v10_67826.pdf

I think they're using the tube harmonics emulation to justify the word "console" only in the sense of old tube broadcast consoles. But I don't think HEAT really will do "consoles" in the same sense as Waves NLS addresses Neve, SSL, or EMI.
