Questions RE: X2PRO :

Is metadata in AAF correctly preserved? Does it retain original TC of audio clips so you can relink with Field Recorder Workflow?

Thank you

May be someone suggest it earlier, but why not use EDL (exported by FCX) and EDILoad?

I guess that works, (does it?) Ediload would be on my bill, while X2Pro can be billed to the production as the editor needs it, that's the main reason i guess. But hey, if Ediload works great with FCPX's EDL output i might go that route! Thanks!

FYI, I've used similar app called XtoCC. It creates xml from .fcpxml file. When I imported the xml into Premiere Pro, it was missing some audio clips. But when I imported the same xml into Final Cut Pro 7, it managed to relink those missing clips and export OMF file. And it's around $50.

Thank you babyseal. Good to know a route that 'works'. The problem is with FCP7, i'm not sure it runs on new operating systems from Apple.

Right now I'm trying with Davinci resolve in the middle between FCPx and Pro Tools, but with mixed results. Might have to splurge for that X2Pro....

Does FCPX export EDLs now? AFAIK the *only* thing FC "pro" X can export is XML to communicate to the outside world. Not even EDLs. At least last time I had the "pleasure" dealing with it.

Frank is correct, FCPX only does XML. EdiLoad does not read XML's.

Yes EdiLoad currently doesn't load FCP-XMLs but you can convert FCP-X XMLs into EDLs with EDL-X.

Hi Michael
My experience of working on 2 features coming from FCP and FCPX is that all metadata is stripped off the rushes in the import process to FCP.
So no field recorder workflow at all is possible, at least I could never get it to work.
Maybe you can get something with timecode only and Ediload, I don't own Ediload and wasn't prepared to buy it.
Also had problems with mixed sample rates and TC's which FCPX allows but is a complete minefield for any file transfer situation.

We used to use Automatic Duck to get AAF's out of FCP.
I'm not sure if that still works with FCPX.
I may be doing another one shortly from FCPX and not looking forward to it at all.

Ooops, I see this is a pretty old thread that has been revived.
Anyhow, interesting to know if any new workflow methods have come up in the meantime.
