"Unfortunately"? I love my Fusion drive. Is the issue that you can't partition it?

It has been a dogs breakfast for most as those drives are not aimed at audio recording. Errors and all around badness.

I've never had a problem, but I probably don't push Pro Tools as I am not primarily a sound editor.

If it works then thats great. No need to change until you actually have a problem oryou may not run into anything. It is just that there has been soo many issues with those iMac's that had Fusion drives that people go to that directly as the culprit but if you can use PT on the fusion drive then all is good

My apologies; missed that. And in which case he has a bigger problem to deal with as those Fusion drives are murder on working with PT. Open the case and replace that drive with a real ssd or spinner.

"open the case". Ha! Easier said than done with an iMac!! Anyway, as above, it ain't broke, so I'm not looking to fix it. I think I for my limited use, I might check out Reaper as an alternative, given these issues. Anyone here ever try it?

Doesn't matter. The Fusion drive moves data on and off the ssd part (which isn't all that big to begin with) at will and a lot of times I'm not sure but I think the spinner part of the Fusion drive is a 5400 rpm jobbie. And that makes it even worse.

Opening the case isn't all that difficult. Have you checked out the videos on the OWC site? OWC even has tool kits to help to do the job as well as seal it back up when done.

Reaper isn't going to help you any given that system drive you have. Any daw will have issues with that drive; some will be worse than others. And don't expect FCPX to run at all well with it either.

I'm not sure why you are so certain about the incompatibility of a Fusion drive. I've been using mine for four years for Pro Tools, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop and more and no particular issues ever. Maybe others have had problems, but not me.

It's been proven here that Fusion drives are death to PT. Do you really want to have the operating system moving your data around at will when you're editing audio or video?

You may think you've not had problems but think back to any unexplained weirdness that happened. Things like PT slowing down, data glitches, etc. To say you haven't had issues only means you're whistling past the graveyard.
