Default Artist Control Firmware Update

Hi,
I'm not sure if I should update firmware or not. I mainly use the Artist Control with a HD3 system and Pro Tools 10.3.9 (Mac OS 10.6.8) with EuControl 2.7.x.
But sometimes I want to connect it to a PT 11.3.1 HD system (Mac OS 10.10.2) with EuControl 3.2.2. This system requires a firmware update for the Artist Control to work.
My questions:
-Will the Artist Control on my main system work after the firmware update? Without updating components there?
-If not, which EuControl version is needed for PT HD 10.3.9? The current setup with all these old components works okay but not flawlessly. There is some fader jitter and Artist Control reboots are necessary sometimes. Would this improve if I update?

Any insights appreciated.

Mark

Seems like it's complicated. Do even the avid product specialists have no answer?

I'm still waiting for an answer. Where else can I improve my knowledge?
It's an important decision for me.

Thanks

Mark

I feel your pain brother!

You have a very specific set of parameters you've indicated that unfortunately don't apply to me... so, any info I give is based on my system which is PC Windows 7 64bit.

That said... I run the latest firmware in my Artist Controllers, but I run EuControl ver. 3.0.1.

This gives me the best flexibility with my setup, and I don't have fader jitter!

I also use Cubase Pro 8.0.10, and not Pro Tools!

The point I'm trying to make is that a little bit of experimentation may be in order for you to find out what is the best software/firmware combination for your setup!

I can tell you that there are trade-offs between the different versions of EuControl, and the latest version has broken functions that work properly in earlier versions!

Thanks, Al. You released me from the belief no one hears me…
Your answer leads me to the suggestion that the new firmware may work with my old EuControl for the 10.6.8 system. But a firmware upgrade is irrevocable, isn't it? That's why I'm in need for a reliable answer…

My question in short: Does a firmware upgrade of an Artist Control break the compatibility with EuControl 2.7.x?
Help, please.

Best

Mark

No... not at all! The firmware for the Artist Controllers is imbedded within each EuControl installer, and the firmware is then uploaded (by You!) to a flashable chip on the controller that can be flashed forward, or backward...how cool is that!

So, you could just install the version of EuControl that has the firmware version you are looking for... install the firmware, and then de-install that version of EuControl, so you can finally install the version of EuControl you need!

I know it sounds like a convoluted mess, but I also see the flexibility of having this operational scenario!

Whether you'll have issues relating to using a different firmware then what was imbedded within your installed version of EuControl is anyone's guess, but the backward compatibility will allow you to sync things up again if you need to!

Thank you, Al. This helps a lot and gives me a understanding of how it works. I'll test it the other day…
