Re: $4K best mic/pre a/d ???
if I were you I'd et a 2610 daul preamp UA
and an ardvark masterclock which wi;; improve sound quality with yopur existing converter avalon preamps are also very very nice I just prefer Ua and you'll probably have enough for a BLUE mic too |

Re: $4K best mic/pre a/d ???
Focusrite isa 428 w/ the 8 channel a/d converter card...$2100
And these converters are nice...I'd put them right below my apogee trak2 but above rme/oo2 converters....Plus you get 8 channels of a/d...No d/a but 8 channels of a/d...Oh and did I mention 4 isa blue mic preamps w/ tons of features...This is a nice unit! Other than that if you're willing to dish out $2700 you can get the rosetta 800 (8 ch a/d and d/a) plus a nice mic pre... personally I'd go for the isa 428 and then go out and but an api luchbox w/ one or two mic pre's...plus you can expand them later and put more api pre's/compressors/eq's etc.... check out mercenary.com and go to the api link at the bottom...Peace!
