Re: What to look for in a UPS
This one (apc smart-ups 1500) looks like it would power all the stuff I need with a little left over. It fits all the best specs mentioned here and I found a refurb here for $235. They also have the rackmount one for the same price.
But I don't like this note : "Audible noise at 1 meter from surface of unit 45 dba" Seems a little loud, but the 700's of the same line are rated at 40 db. I have to keep everything in the same room for now, is this going to be a little too loud?

Re: What to look for in a UPS
One place that I have used many times over the years with no issues:
http://www.upsforless.com/ I especially like the rack-mount versions for 150 bucks. Of course, shipping jacks that up a bit... |

Re: What to look for in a UPS
I always disconnect the buzzer in my UPS so it doesn't beep when the power goes out. Sometimes you can clip the wires going to the buzzer, or unsolder the buzzer mounted on a circuit card, or once I ripped the plastic cover off the front of the buzzer and took out the small metal disc because It was going to be too hard to get to the back of the buzzer.
