Default MacBook first time buyer!

I am almost ready to buy my first MacBook! I just can not find if Fire Wire comes standard with MacBooks. And if anyone knows anything else I should know, please let me know. Here are the Specs on my future purchase.

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
160GB hard drive1
Double-layer SuperDrive

I am also thinking of getting Final Cut Express. Is that a good program?
I have never used Mac for anything. I've just heard its way better for music production etc.

Any advice would be great! thx

All Macs come with firewire standard. A MacBook will have a single firewire 400 port:

They have both the 400 & 800 Firewire.

What are you getting the 15" or the 17"?

pguy, MacBook's only have fw400 and only come in 13.5". You're mistaking it with the MacBook Pro.

Final Cut Express is okay, but what do you want to do with your Mac? I've just heard its way better for music production etc. They don't create products by themselves. It's all about how you use it. Final Cut Pro is a great program, express is okay. I'd rather use the stock iMovie over express, though. I have a 2.0 ghz core duo MacBook and it's a great machine. You'll love yours. Good luck!

New MacBooks and MacBook Pros are rumored to be coming soon (within 2 weeks). I know you can't believe rumors, but has been a LONG time since the product line was updated, so it's worth holding off a couple of weeks to see.

Great point! I forgot all about that! Whatever the upgrade, it's worth waiting. One tip when switching to Mac... control and apple are swapped for all of your key-commands. It'll drive you crazy until you get used to it. The "boot chime" is more pleasing to me than a PC, but that doesn't mean anything.

Thanks for the great info I'll think about waiting but I wonder how much the price will increase? I just want to edit and make home video and continue using PTLE for my music.
Thx

Usually (I love this about Apple) when they upgrade, the prices stay the same and the lower models move down the price line. Before you purchase Final Cut Express, play around with what comes in iLife 08 (iMovie, iDVD, etc...) Pretty handy stuff! As far as Pro Tools LE goes, I use it all the time with my MacBook and it's been great! The only thing that I don't care for is the screen size while editing, so I use a second monitor in conjunction. But, when I'm just chatting, checking emails, or browsing the web... the compact size is great!
