Default S/PDIF output and inserts quit working

I have been using the S/PDIF sends quite effectively the last couple of weeks to monitor and send to outboard effects through a Benchmark DAC-1. Recently, while running LE 6.0 my Powerbook did the crash where it says you must restart your computer in all the different languages and now, my i/o is all messed up. The S/PDIF in works fine but the output and insert sections are grayed out where channels 17 and 18 should be and it won't let me use them. I don't remember it being difficult to set up the first time, but have been pulling my hair out this time. Any ideas?
Thanks

Chris

Chris,

Do you have S/PDIF mirroring enabled? With S/PDIF mirroring enabled the S/PDIF output will not be available as a seperate output. Go to Setups > Hardware to disable S/PDIF mirroring.

Mike, S/PDIF mirroring is disabled (the box is unchecked) but the software is acting as though it is not. It still plays back through both analog 1-2 and S/PDIF L-R. In the i/o section under the output tab both analog 1-2 and S/PDIF L-R are in the first box same output. Where channel 17 and 18 should be it is grayed out. Under the insert tab the S/PDIF is the last box with L R in the proper slot (17 and 18) but channel 17 and 18 are grayed out and I can't seem to select them. In the past I just selected the default set-up and it made channel 17 and 18 available for S/PDIF. No go this time. I trashed prefs. I think I am going to uninstall and reinstall Protools, unless you have a better suggestion. Thanks
Chris
