Default ProTools v8 Panpot anomaly

Just started using 8 and I noticed that when I put a stereo aux send on a mono track (or aux), set the aux send level to zero, pan to center and send tone through, the level is @ 0 on both channels of the stereo aux. Before, it would read -3dB as it should. I can't find anything in the preferences. Has Digi changed the design of the panpot and, if so, why?

I haven't seen that and I have actually looked for it! I have seen only center-pan gains of -2.5 or -3.0, depending on what output it is assigned to and what mixers are in the plugins folder.

What version of Pro Tools are you running? LE?
