Default Studio moniters?

I've been searching for a studio monitor option. I'm not sure what would be the best route. I have a Yamaha HS50M for my left, and using a cambridge sound works for my right side. teh cambridge seem flat enough, but I'd prefer to have my stereo setup to be both HS50's. I'm not sure if this would be the best route. I've been told I should get the Yamaha HS10W subwoofer, but that's 500$ I honestly do not want to spend. I do have another sub, but would it be suffiecent enough to do what I need to do? Which is basically use them for mixing and use them to hear an accurate representation of what I've been recording in pro tools?

Default Re: Studio moniters?

If nothing else, first the left and right monitors REALLY need to match. That's first and foremost.
Then it's a purely subjective choice. I'm still mixing on JBL 4410's (with my own home-brew twin-chamber isobarik dual 15 subs), also have a pair of the original Alesis M1's, plus the option of listening to the mix on my TV speakers. If you can hear everything on something that crappy, you're certainly on the right track!!!! But it boils down to what you're used to and/or what you like.
I think the key is, before you mix anything, listen to a commercially produced CD over your system.
In my experience it gets your brain (ears) used to what you want your final product to sound like. So for instance, if I'm mixing an R&B song, get out the Brian McKnight CD and have a listen!
Hope that helps a little.....
