888/24 AES/EBU out to DA-88, how?
I need to make dubs and stem mixes for a client. They want them on DA-88. I want to go digital out of my 888/24 but do I have to buy the $500.00 Tascam IF-AE8 converter to do this?
Otherwise I'll just go analog. Prefer digital though. Thanks.

Re: 888/24 AES/EBU out to DA-88, how?
Unfortunately, yes, that's the only way I know of unless you have some sort of digital mixer or router that would do the AES to TDif conversion.
The new 192 I/O, however, has 8 Tdif inputs and outputs (expandable to 16 per 192) so if you're thinking about upgrading your Pro Tools system to Pro Tools HD you may not need to buy that converter. Just a thought. Jon Connolly Digidesign Product Specialist |

Thanks Jon,
I was wondering if anyone is familiar with Zsystems?

Re: 888/24 AES/EBU out to DA-88, how?
I use an ADAT bridge and two Tascam IF-TAD TDIF to ADAT converters together with my two DA88's.
Maybe u should find a PT studio around to do the transfer for you, or you could FedEx the material to me and i'll do the transfer for you. Good luck |

Re: 888/24 AES/EBU out to DA-88, how?
Hey guys,
Thanks for the info. I think I'll either rent one, ($50.00) or just do analog. It's cheaper to rent an IF-ae8 than to take it to another studio, and if I go analog, it won't cost me a penny!

You might want to watch out - Many of the earlier versions of the Tascam IF series only pass 16 bits! Only the very newest models pass 24.

Re: 888/24 AES/EBU out to DA-88, how?
24-bit won't be an issue, isn't the DA-88 only 16-bit anyway??
I use a Tascam IF-AE8HR to interface with my DA-88, and it works fine. |
