Default PT/AV and FCP on the same box?

I've checked the compatability docs, and am still confused. So.....

Is anyone doing this? I have a G4 500, running 9.0.4 OS. I have a Magma 13 slot chassis with my ABVB, Janus, Core, and Farm cards in it.

Can the RT Mac card co-exist with the others in the Magma?

Can I use the same drive config for FCP that I use for PT? (Dual Atto - one side to audio drives, one side to video drives)

I'm pretty sure that I'll have to upgrade to OS 9.1, but the compatability docs say for the 4-slot G4 500, 9.0.4 is required. Is this true, or am I reading that wrong? Can AV/Option work on 9.1?

I'd like to have all of this on one tidy box and not buy another computer right now, so am I asking for headaches, or is this doable?

Thanks for your brave replys.

AV Option and AV Option XL will work with Mac OS 9.1 or 9.2 but any conflict would most likely be from adding cards to the system.

Digi has done very little, if any, testing with additional cards in the chassis and/or computer. There are so many variables that it would be a huge task to test so, if you're looking for an "official" Digi blessing you most likely won't get one.

Will it work? maybe, my suggestion (against Tech Supports wishes) would be to try it. Keep in mind that a call to Tech Support is going to get you an "unsupported and therefore remove it" answer if you run into any problems though.

Me too. I also have AV Option on a 500Mhz machine, but with OS 9.2.2 and the smaller of the Magma chassis. What video card were you planning to use with FCP? I just wonder about two different sets of video boards living in harmony in the same system. Or would the smarter approach be to somehow "hide" the video boards from each other. I am willing to tinker a bit on my system.

Hi Don-

Thanks for your reply.

I was thinking about the Matrox RT Mac card. I hear it's a good one, and it just came down a few hundred dollars.

The co-existence of the RT Mac and the Avid card set has been one of my main concerns too. I want to have this set-up, but not at the expense of my bread and butter (the PT rig).

Have you been thinking of doing this as well?

Jon- Thanks. I definitely don't want to ruin the stable environment I'm in right now. Maybe I'll give it a whirl, I was just
hoping to find someone out there that was already at it and they could reply with a "sure, do it, it's perfect, no bugs." Oh well, I'll keep dreaming about those replys.
