Default ufid and omf import query

anyone out there have any answers to this problem?

we have a session that was accidently burnt to iso9660 cd. which means that all the filenames do not match. We also have the original omf (externally referenced and has the same problem). There are 5 programmes which have this problem. A lot of files.

On track import thru omf, you have the option to get the files back individually by asking it to search the ufid which takes about 10 sec per audio file.

So. my questions are..
1. is there a way to get it to always look for ufid when importing tracks thru OMF? A standalone programmes perhaps?

2. the ufid option is greyed out when trying to import the same tracks from a protools session. why? does pt strip this information out of the file?

Any help is alway appreciated..

I'm not sure if this will help you, but have you tried downloading the "joliet" extension (from www.digidesign.com, look under download category: Third party links). This "joliet" extension should help the mac recognize the proper file names. It's worth a try.

Sorry, this link should work: www.digidesign.com

navigate to support-->downloads-->under download category choose: "Utilities & Links to Third Party Software".

The Joliet Extension. Joliet File Access is a System Extension that enhances the way a Macintosh computer can read a Windows CD-ROM, allowing files to be seen with their original names. Such as:

MP3 files
DirectCD CD-Rs created and closed under Windows
Audio files

This might seem obvious: If your PT session is 5.1, you should be able to use the ufid to open and recreate the sessions, without needing to go back to your OMF's. Since the file names are changed, search and find each file only by its unique i.d., not filename. It does take some time but hey....

we have 5.1.3 with digitranslator 2 built in.

windows(XP) shows the files as 8.3 also, so do you still think the joliet extension will work?

And soundman002, that is the problem. ufid is greyed out when importing from a 5.1 session. not the original omf tho. hmm.

Next question: which version of Avid are you getting the files from?

sorry, I soulda put all this in post#1!

format is sd2, session is 44100, 25fps, and um..

Is there any move to let users re-online the offline media thru importing an OMFI? like avids can.. maybe thru post conform..

and.. where has the OMFI support pages gone? they used to be hosted on avid.com, but they have been moved.
