Latest ProTools Update Prevents Me from Opening the Program
About 8 hours ago now I updated ProTools to it's latest(?) version, 2024.3. Now ProTools simply will not open.
After having installed the update, avid link prompted me to reinstall ProTools due to a "admin system failure", or some kind of wording like that, I can't quite remember what it said. So I reinstalled ProTools 2024.3 from Avid Link. After it was reinstalled is when it stopped opening. I thought I should update my mac OS to the latest. But still the same issue. Currently it will load like normal, but it will stop loading before it reaches the screen where you choose the sample rates and cache size, etc. Essentially, the latest update has just prevented my from continuing to use ProTools, which I will add, my subscription is still active, I've checked Avid Link and the Avid site. I'm at a loss as to why or how to fix it. I could probably uninstall and reinstall ProTools myself, but I'm kind of nervous about how it may affect my current plugins. |

Re: Latest ProTools Update Prevents Me from Opening the Program
I updated the same PT update and have the same problem. I uninstalled PT and reinstalled but same problem.
I also updated to Mac OS Monterey but still the same problem. |

Re: Latest ProTools Update Prevents Me from Opening the Program
You need to try trashing the plugin cache (the new location in the latest Pro Tools releases). This problem with the 2024.3 release been talked about multiple times on DUC.
Please search with google using the site:duc.avid.com qualifier to search DUC before posting here. And a reminder the plugin caching changed in 2023.12 and later: New location on Mac: /Users/Shared/Pro Tools/AAXPlugInCache/* Remember to quote or escape the space in "Pro Tools" if doing this from the command line. The current version of PT Prefs 2 does *not* correctly trash these PluginCache files, you have to do it by hand. -- Uninstalling and reinstalling Pro Tools is almost guaranteed to be a waste of time. If you don't know what to do, at least follow the standard troubleshooting steps under "help us help you" up the top of every DUC web page. Yes reinstalling Pro Tools is on that list, but far from the first thing to try. The very first thing on the list, trashing prefs, may well be the solution here -- please let us know if it gets you going. Nobody should be relying on Avid Link, uninstall that crapware, I don't know how many times folks here have to keep repeating that. |
