Default Spinning ball for 3 seconds

Ever since I upgraded to the latest PT for Mac, I have been experiencing during my mixing sessions a brief spinning ball for a few seconds and everything freezes but session keeps going and then back to normal. This is very annoying. It happens randomly and is becoming more prevalent. Does anyone else experience this bug?

Thanks in advance

Hi There!
You need to include some system details for us to evaluate your issue.
Hardware, software OS Windows/Mac etc.
Model of Mac etc. See my info in my signature as an example.

Create a simple session without any plugins and start there recoding or mixing something and see if it happens. Then go from there.

Many people have reported this issue. The only possible solution so far is a clean install of MacOS (not factory install) and clean install of Protools (not update). This issue seems to be most prevalent on Big Sur and on new M1-based Macs, but also affect other setups. Having said that, some people don't seem to have this issue at all, so it is unclear what the culprit is. As suggested, some suspect a plugin issue.

So...you know what causes the problem, AND you know the resolution. Right?

I don't understand...

Have you, or has any other user done this successfully on their daily production machine? Can someone chime in and confirm that this is the fix?

Like, a current work machine doing heavy loads that gets used every day.

All you have to do is not connect to an NAS or run a backup while mixing or recording. Seems like a pretty reasonable solution to me. But of course YMMV…

I did this to my primary Protools system and don't get any beachballs. Now I don't claim to be a heavy hitter, more of just a hobbyist nowadays. I use MacOS 11.5.2 (Big Sur) but not on an M1-based Mac. I use mostly Avid plugins and some Waves and Isotope plugins. I also use Native Instruments virtual instruments. Let me also preface this to say that I did not have beachballs happening even before the fresh install of the OS an Protools. I did it as a good practice.

Some of the people experiencing these beachballs have this happen on small session using few tracks, so I can't say if this is a solution or not.
