Default Quicktime out firewire

Is there a specific video format or limitation for the firewire out to work? I get qt files with only slight compression and i have to stop, open qt and re-export.
G510.4.10 PT 7.4 cs3 qt 7.2
Cheers!

It should definitely work with the dv-codec.

We had sessions, where other formats worked (even mpgs - which is apparently not possible), but dv will always work and is the most accurate.

Hope this helps.
Timothy

PS: We use Canopus.

Thanks for viewing. PT will always firewire output dv/dvcpro Ntsc or pal. (i love the cute dip swithch on the 110 that fips you to PAL) PT will show you other formats internally but will grey out the firewire option. I should have asked what the limitations of the firewire output are... or if any other format MUST be exported tp DV/DVCPRO to use the firewire output.
Cheers!

I have been advised that the canopus 110 might be so limited that it wont pass anything else and thus greys out mr. pt. Any one else ?

What exactly is your question?

Hi Tim Question is does the 110 pass anything other than dvcpro, other codecs such as H264 wont output and the option is greyed out, ERGO is there a firewire transcoder that will pass other formats, that is not expensive.
Cheers

Officially, Canopus only outputs dv-codec. We had sessions, where even mpgs and other codecs were outputted, but I wouldn't trust sync-accuracy.

You could try Mojo, but as far as I know, that's limited to the dv-codec, too.

Hope this helps,
Timothy

Firewire Out only works w/ the DV25 codec*

*there is a bug that sometimes lets non-dv streams play out Firewire if a dv stream of the same frame rate was in the session previously

a non related option is video out firewire, it's a program for viewing files on the firewire bus, though this won't solve your issue.

Make sure the FW bus is off the board, sometimes the 110 has issues with hubs. also, try and purchase a radio shack run of the mill power source, this might help in the stream.

if your working on sound to picture, then the quality of the pic isn't that important, i.e. compress the video more, just make sure its dv-25, or even sorenson 3.

if you need a more robust category of playback codecs, i'd suggest Virtual VTR, though that option requires another mac and video card, however it offers greater speed and picture.

Sorenson 3 will not play out FW, only DV will. And Sorenson 3 demands more of the CPU to decode.
