256 meaning your buffer setting I presume. The owst buffer you can go is also dependent on the Digi hardware you use. What Digi hardware are you using?

Still need more info as mentioned earlier by albee1952.

So your system isnt showing a buffer of 64 at all? Are you saying it does but PT will only you allow you to record at 256 but not lower? Or...are you getting errors at lower buffer settings? Are you using VI's? Which ones? Any plug-ins inserted at all when doing this? If you're getting error messages, what are they?

Basically, we need TONS of detailed info to even begin speculating and offering troubleshooting suggestions.

One thing at least seems to help
I was able to go then down to 128 on a T61
with XP and PT8LE

is to disable both WIFI and LAN extention
from the device manager.
there's also a new RiCOH script here if your
firewire card is RICOH

Also daisy chain computer<>drive<>Digi002

Sayed,

There are a lot of different things that could be causing your problem, so it make take a little time to rule out various causes. But I think your problem is fixable.

Just looking at the info you have provided, your problem sounds a lot like others have had with a Gigabyte board and a high-end nvidia video card. I would guess that if you are able to play at high buffer settings like 512 and 1024, then perhaps you are getting high latencies that are affecting your low buffer settings like 128 & 64. Various hardware can cause these problems. like video cards, network cards, wifi, and several other big offenders.

You also have integrated video, so this should be disabled in the BIOS. That alone could be your problem, but you need to do a few tests.

A good start is to download and run the DPC latency tester. If you are getting spikes, this could be the casue of your problem. It has been found that Gigabyte motherboards with some Nvidia cards have caused high latencies. This was mostly fixed by using the Microsoft video driver instead of the Nvidia driver. The only problem with this is that you will only be able to use one monitor as MS does not support 2 monitors. So,if your problem is the DPC latency and the Nvidia video card, this could be a good solution.

Please let us know the exact model of Nvidia card you have and run the DPC latency Checker. Good luck.
