Default Vista Q9550

I've noticed that the Vista Q6600 is a qualified 7.4, 003 computer. Has anyone tried the newer Q9000 series. (Q9300, Q9400, Q9550). These seem to be a lot faster.
Also, anyone using RAID 0 for their system drive. I'm looking to move up to Vista, and a new computer.
Thanks for any feed back!!!

I have a Q9450-its fine. All things being equal PT prefers cache size and cores over clock speed. Go for the Q9450 or Q9550. Don't spend more than that on the processor though since the returns diminish quickly.

Why would you want to do this.....

As far as PT goes Vista does not even qualify as a "sidegrade" For best performance stick with XP for a little while longer.

Thanks for the reply Sunburst,,,,I've been away from my PC for a while, but in case you check back on me,,, I wanted you to know that your info has been very helpful!!! It seems like everyone is better off with XP until Vista 64 might come out. And the info on cache size over clock speed is great to know. As for the RAID O drive, I think that I was thinking more for the DIGI drive,,,, (slow mind, fast fingers?!?!) Thanks again!!!

Remember that Pro Tools does not support RAID or 64bit XP or Vista.

I believe albee is referring to 64 bit Vista not being supported. Only 32 bit Vista is supported.

Cheers,

Thanks guys,,, Thats to bad about RAID not being supported by PT! I'm using it for a virtual inst. ,,,,Ivory, and totaly changed the flexability of the instrument. I 1st tried the normal 7200 rpm drive connected with eSATA, but was just not enough speed to get all that I wanted out of Ivory. But then, I guess Digi doesn't really need all that much more hard drive speed,,, works great as is!!
