My free trial of Pro Tools will not open at all.....

i downloaded the free trial of Pro Tools 10 on my Mac today and when i press on the pro tools icon it says this:

"Error, missing iLok authorization for Pro Tools 10. Please insert the necessary iLok and restart Pro Tools."

im not sure what to do. i dont know why we have to use iLok in the first place anyway.

Requirements:

You must have an iLok USB Smart Key and an iLok.com account to authorize your Pro Tools 10 trial, plus meet the minimum system requirements for the software you request:

Do you have an iLok dongle and have it registered at iLok.com?

i have an account on iLok. I downloaded something the Driver installer but im not even what that means to be honest.

im new to pro tools so some of the stuff youre saying doesnt make much sense.

I have to buy a iLok usb that cost $50 in order for my FREE trial to work?

If i am wrong about this, please someone clarify this. if i have to spend 50 bucks on a free trial, thats ridiculous. so correct me if im wrong please.

you do need to buy an iLok but sinse most Pro Tools users have needed one for 10 or 12 years it's not an issue to us

Pro Tools uses iLok copy protection, and the trial is accomplished by providing a time limited iLok license. This allows Pro Tools to run fully featured (instead of feature limited like some trials/demos).

We do clearly state on the Pro Tools 10 Trial page that an iLok is required.

I think Avid needs to be a little more clear about the fact you actually have to purchase the iLok usb (which is none returnable or refundable) as you can only activate your account if the usb iLok is installed on your computer. The people at Avid , you need to put an asterisk next to the word "FREE" and explain that in the "Avid world" nothing is FREE and the 30 day trial costs around $50.00!

Actually AVID is not to blame on that one. The license is indeed FREE but you would still need the iLok. The best way to think about it is that Avid gave you the key but to use it you need the keychain.

Completely agree its stated in the requirements.

Steinberg also requires a license key in order for you to demo Cubase.


A lot of companies use ilok to authorize there software, so at some point you will need an ilok
