Default Instrument or audio tracks

I'm pretty new to recording on pro tools and this is probably a noob question... Is it generally accepted to leave instrument tracks as is in the mixdown, or do you route and record them to an audio track and then make adjustments?

Committing them to audio can free up CPU resources because VIs tend to be heavy hitters.. But leaving them as MIDI allows for more flexibility in your editing..

There isn't any audio quality advantage that I've ever heard about..

Llike flommer said. Many times I got a smile on my face because I new I had my Vi's there to go back too if something wasn't right. If it was only audio...... Well you know.

After I'm done doing all my midi recording I'll buss each inst track to audio tracks & then "hide & make inactive" the inst tracks. The audio suite has some cool editing features & can add fades or drop outs that I like to use when mixing. Its also great to know that if I need to make adjustments to any midi, all I have to do is activate the inst tracks & re-write them to audio when finished.

I also do what is said above. After recoding, bounce them to an audio track, then make the VI inactive and hide them. This way you save CPU but can retrieve the midi tracks later if need be.

+1 There's no harm in keeping them asleep and re-awaken them if an edit is needed!
