Default USB Cable

Is the USB cable supplied with the 11r, a dongle?
It seems a standard USB cable will not work.
Can anyone confirm this?

Any usb cable should work, as long as it's the right type. What I mean is, it's a different (smaller) jack at the end that goes to the 11R vs. the end that goes to the computer (which is bigger).

But this is a standard configuration, with many aftermarket cables of this type available. It's the same type of cable used with many printers, midi keyboard controllers, etc.

All USB cables aren't equal. Some provide bus power, some are data only. There are other variations but yeah, a standard USB "Printer" cable should suffice.

I wasn't aware of some of that. I was mainly pointing out the the 11R cable is nothing proprietary.

Yup it's pretty generic and works good on my system. I've also used other cables without any issues. There's always a possibility of one of the pinouts being broken inside the connector or back shell (such as it is) of the cable that's not playing ball.

Any generic cable should work, but we have seen some problems with some lower quality cables.

from USB.org:

Q1: How long of a cable can I use to connect my device?
A1: In practice, the USB specification limits the length of a cable between full speed devices to 5 meters (a little under 16 feet 5 inches). For a low speed device the limit is 3 meters (9 feet 10 inches).

It's about 16' max distance. I have a 15' run with an extension cable from my Oxygen 61. No problem with it. You can go longer if you get something like this:

IOGEAR 36ft. Booster

It's kind of like putting a buffer in a very long cable chain. You know how in a long say 25' run from the guitar to the pedal board then another 25' from the pedal board to the amp? And you know about how "true bypass is necessary" internet legend? Well Pete Cornish says you lose signal strength from capacitance and need a quality buffer usually as the last pedal on the board so you don't lose the high end. Same principle.
